WHO WE ARE
Blakedown WI is a lively, very friendly group of more than 50 members. With our large village located between Kidderminster and Birmingham, we find our members really appreciate the beautiful countryside, while also understanding the pressures of urban life. Many of us work, or have worked, in all kinds of professions and settings. Some are juggling family responsibilities. This vast range of member experience is our strength, and together we make the most of all the WI can offer.

WHAT WE LOVE
Established in 1920, Blakedown WI has been thriving for more than 100 years, always celebrating with a traditional birthday meal. At our monthly meetings we often welcome speakers on a huge range of interesting topics, from gemstones to the Midland Freewheelers Blood Bikes. A session of exercises from the ‘Active Seniors’ tutor certainly had members on their toes! On other occasions we have fun with indoor Kurling competitions, quizzes, beetle drives or bingo. A group activity creating fast fashion from recyclable materials caused plenty of laughter, especially when the volunteers modelled their garments to the assembled audience! Out and about we’ve made recent local visits to Bodenham Arboretum and Ashwood Nursery, as well as the National Arboretum, joined by some of our local friends. Our keen readers are able to join our monthly book club, and ramblers can enjoy occasional group walks. Blakedown WI members also generously support the Kidderminster Food Bank by bringing monthly contributions when they can.

WHY JOIN US
We’re delighted to be an active, varied and fun-loving WI group offering a wide array of opportunities throughout the year. We always love to meet new faces, so do come along!
